The Gift of a Future: A letter from Fr.
Emil
In Honduras, Liberia, and the Dominican Republic, we have
orphanages, grade schools, high schools, a trade school,
boys towns, girls towns, resident houses for university
students, and a project for abandoned mothers and their
children. We are now helping more than a thousand children
complete their education. We do not just sustain poor
children, orphans, and abandoned mothers. We want to help
them prepare to sustain themselves - to give them a chance
to have a brighter future. When you help one person out of
poverty by empowering them to take care of their own needs
you give them dignity, self-esteem, and self-assurance.
That is the ultimate goal of all of our projects and
programs. We want to help people help themselves through
education.
But education by itself does not make people better. In
poverty stricken countries, people usually just do whatever
it takes to survive. We strive to give an integral
education. That is, we educate the whole person. One
essential part of that education is teaching them about
their faith and the importance of leading a moral life. If
we just educate academically and make that person a
professional without God, his normal reaction will be to
use his education to get everything he can for himself.
Only with God in their hearts can people see the world
correctly and see their profound obligations toward their
brothers and sisters on this planet. Only with a profound
relationship with God can we successfully fight against
greed, corruption, and selfishness in our own hearts and in
the world around us.
All of our programs are helping to sustain and educate
children and to give them hope and a life with a future. We
hope that you will become our partners in serving Jesus in
His poor brothers and sisters.
Peace, Love, and Joy,
Father Emil
Your sponsorship is the
source of an education based on Christian
values
The sponsorship program is an integral key to the success
of Mission Honduras International and those it serves. As a
sponsor, you will receive correspondence and a photograph
periodically. We encourage you to write to your sponsored
child and even come to visit and get to know him or her.
The children look forward to receiving your letters,
especially if they contain photographs, and they really
enjoy corresponding and coming to know their Sponsors. The
Mission will translate all of the letters, but if you speak
Spanish, please let us know. If your child withdraws from
our program, you will be given another to support. Please
send all correspondence to the Chicago address listed on
the Contact Us page.
NOTE: All donations to Mission Honduras are tax deductible.
