In the Dominican Republic, we have a university house in the capital and a boarding facility for high school students in Estebania. We hope to continue to increase the number of students we can house at both locations. This year we are building a second floor with six bedrooms on our house for university students. In Estebania we are building four more bedrooms to increase capacity and we are buying a bus to transport our students to the school, which is about five miles away.

In June of 2007, Fr. Emil and the leaders of APUFRAM visited three different areas in the hopes of starting another project in 2009. They spoke with a number of priests, sisters, and government leaders. There is an incredible need of help for the hundreds of thousands of young people who want to be able to study. Since many of them do not have the opportunity to even finish grade school, they end up in the cities where they are trapped in a life of crime and drugs. Given a chance at an education, they will have hope for the future and work on making a life for themselves and their families, which ultimately enriches their communities and their country.
