Dear Friends,
We, the Martin and Dewan families, are board members, sponsors, and volunteers for Mission Honduras International. A few months back, we were blessed with the opportunity to visit with the children who live and study at Liberia Mission. We were inspired and humbled by their outpouring of love for us as physical representatives of all of you who have given them hope and opportunity. In a country that is still recovering from the devastation of war most Liberian children live impoverished lives with little hope—but not ours. Thanks to you we are helping to break that terrible cycle of poverty.
But the children need our help to keep their dreams alive. That is why the Martin Family and The Dewan Foundation have joined together to issue a challenge: We each pledge $50,000 to match your donation made by July 31, 2011. That means that the amount you donate to Mission Honduras International will automatically be tripled. Our goal is to raise a total of $150,000 for the children.
Will you help us? If, like us, you were able to travel to Liberia and meet these children we know your answer would be a resounding YES!
While we were visiting, each morning the red-headed rooster who lives on the grounds awakened us at sunrise. The hour was early but the 110 young people who live in the mission have much to do before school. In order to see to their morning hygiene, the boys waited in line outside a common bathroom while in the girls’ residence across the courtyard it was much the same—though it was only last year that the girls’ compound got running water. Then it was off to breakfast followed by Morning Prayer where their rhythmic honeyed voices carried praise to the Lord throughout the mission. Then the children headed across campus to attend class with over 230 neighboring students at the mission’s St. Anthony of Padua School. Recently, again thanks to your support, we were able to add a much-needed wing to the school. But already we must look to more advanced academic and vocational programming as many of our students grow beyond the 9th grade. The thirst for education in Liberia is great and this is especially evidenced at Liberia Mission. Though their books may be tattered and school supplies rationed, every child at our school knows just how lucky they are to have a place here. We have brought them far but we still have a long journey ahead of us in order to fully prepare our young people for their future careers and leadership roles. Please join us.

Your Love blessed and given and bringing New Life to Liberia!
Dear Friends,
A miracle has occurred in our midst! Last week, we heard the Gospel of the loaves and fishes... and indeed, it has happened right before us in the form of the Martin / Dewan Liberia Challenge Match! Blessed. Broken. Shared. Multiplied. And Overflowing.
It started with just an idea and a prayer back in April. Then, your love and generosity poured out, overflowed, and together with other supporters during this "Triple your Gift" challenge match, you raised more than $196,662! Our goal was $150,000 - that was $50,000 from donors like you, matched twice with $50,000 grants from Deacon Eddie and Jennie Martin and John and Sue Dewan.
A miracle of love! Because of your generosity and prayers, we now have the funding level needed to take us from summer into an exciting new school year for our more than 340 children, 35 staff members and numerous community families who all learn, love, and pray at Liberia Mission!
Thank you for all you do to bring hope and new life to Liberia. May God continue to bless you for your abundant generosity, your prayers, and your love, which is truly saving lives in Liberia!
In Christ's Peace,
Bob O'Dwyer, Board President, John and Sue Dewan, Deacon Eddie and Jennie Martin and all of us at Liberia Mission Inc. and Mission Honduras International
